Child Development Associate (CDA)

Must have a CDA or be enrolled in one to be completed within two years of hire.

Northwestern Michigan College

Child Development Associate (CDA). T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® of Michigan provides scholarship support for students eligible for this education plan. This schedule is completed in two sequential semesters.

Associate or Bachelor’s Degree (in any area), or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree. Northernwestern Michigan Options include:
Baker College (Cadillac)       
  •  Associates of Science, Early Childhood Education, 60 credit hours
  • Bachelors of Science, Early Childhood Education, 120 credit hours (Note: This does not lead to K-8 certification)
  • Bachelors of Science, Elementary Teacher Preparation Early Childhood ZS (General & Special Education), 136 credit hours     
North Central Michigan College
  • Associates of Arts (AA) with a Concentration in Early Childhood Education, 63-66 credit hours
Northwestern Michigan College
  • Early Childhood Education and Care Certificate Program, 38-42 credit hours
  • Associates in Applied Science, Early Childhood Education, 60 credit hours
Westshore Community College
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate, typically 1-year program, 30 credit hours
  • Early Childhood Education, Associates of Applied Arts and Sciences (AAAS), 60 credit hours

The Early Childhood Program’s purpose is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to enrolled children and families.

Pay Range
  • $11–13/hr, Full Time, Non-Exempt
Minimum Education
  •  A CDA credential, be enrolled in a CDA credential program that will be completed within 2 years from  the date of hire OR have an associate or bachelors degree (in any area), or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.  Some tuition assistance and training are also available.
Additional Qualifications Required
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to meet the State of Michigan and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check requirements.
  • Ability to meet the State of Michigan and federal health requirements (medical clearance, mental wellness, and TB examination).
  • Experience working with low income/at-risk families.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience.
